European Brown Bear Tours

Although the polar, grizzly and kodiak bears are better known than most, there are plenty of fantastic bear-watching opportunities available in Europe. European brown bear tours are available throughout the continent, offering holiday makers the chance to view one of the continent's most legendary and misunderstood animals - but where are the best places to go on bear tours?

The largest populations

The Eurasian brown bear used to be found across the whole of Europe. The species was driven out of Britain and Ireland well over a millennium ago, but it has continued to thrive on the continent. Large populations live east of the Ural Mountains in Russia, making their home in the Siberian forests. Bear tours to this area tend to be more difficult to arrange, due to the vastness of the territory and the transitory nature of bear populations.

Scandinavian populations

One of the best regions for bear tours is Baltoscandia: bear tours to this area are well organised, allowing visitors to stay close to the Finland/Russia border. The area is a true wilderness, and in the summer months large groups of bears can be watched from specially constructed bear-hides. Scandinavia, and the area around the Baltic Sea, has seen an increase in bear numbers in recent years, thanks largely to ongoing conservation efforts, and bear tours are a great way to support these efforts while getting to enjoy the creatures in their natural habitat. There are reported to be around 2,000 bears in Sweden, 1,200 in Finland, 700 in Estonia and 70 in Norway.

Bears elsewhere

There are opportunities for tours in other parts of the continent, allowing you to experience bears in a variety of climates. The population of bears in the Pyrenees and the Cantabrian mountains are both very small, with the French authorities importing bears from Slovenia in an attempt to bolster the numbers. In Italy, there are small populations of bears in the Abruzzi and Trentino regions.

There are larger populations in Romania, Slovakia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Slovenia and Bulgaria, while smaller groups are found in Albania, Greece, Serbia, Montenegro and Ukraine. Researchers divide these populations into two groups: the Balkan group, comprised of around 3,000 individual bears, and the Carpathian group, numbering over 5,000 bears.

Bear tour opportunities

Across much of Europe there are great opportunities for seeing bears on tours. Despite relatively healthy numbers, European brown bears are still at risk, being driven in to smaller and smaller isolated patches. As their habitat is destroyed, and unwanted human to bear contact becomes a justification for governments to hand out hunting licences, there is a greater need for us to protect these magnificent creatures: properly organised and responsible tours are a fantastic way of doing this.

Airport Express Line - Delhi

Are you still languishing in traffic and obsessing that horn button of yours while losing your temper at that silly call center driver? Or has missing your flight become commonplace? Delhi walas do not fear. The Delhi Metro or should I say DAMEPL (Delhi Metro Express Pvt. Limited) has recently unveiled the spanking new Airport Express Line. But the question that remains is if it is the first class experience it claims to be or is it a white elephant? Read on to know more.

How it started

The Tendering process for this project started in September 2007 after which on Jan 23, 2008, Reliance Infrastructure and the CAF consortium was awarded a 30 year contract. Although originally this project was scheduled to complete around India's Commonwealth Games, teething troubles in shifting Airport operations to the new terminal T3 delayed the opening of the Airport Express line to February 23 2011.

Features of the Delhi Metro Airport Express Line

The Airport Express Line has been designed with a high measure of comfort and high speed safety. Also since the Spanish firm CAF has also designed similar airport express lines in Hong Kong and London, travelers from those regions might have a sense of Dj vu. It's nice to see that DAMEPL hasn't stinted on features and has included amenities like lifts, escalators, baggage trolleys, porter services, wheelchair and lots more. Also the passenger cabins boast of adequate space for your bulky suitcases and also have a dedicated baggage compartment should you need more baggage space.

Passenger Coaches of the Airport Express - A class apart

After stepping into one of the spanking new Airport Line coaches, you feel transported into a foreign country as you leave behind Delhi's heat, smoke, dust and noise. Decked with fancy LCD screens which give information on your flights, comfortable seating arrangements, ample luggage space and air-conditioned coaches zipping @105 km/h make it apparently clear that this isn't your normal commuter's metro. All in all it's like luxury high speed travel at the fraction of the price.

Coach Technology

The rolling stock (fancy name for trains) for the Delhi Metro Airport Express line boasts of some innovative and high technology engineering. Built by Spanish experts CAF with a special emphasis on making the coaches silent, everything from flooring, insulated walls and windows have been engineered so that they are as silent as possible. Even the wheels have added lubrication to make the trains silent and comfortable. Also the trains are built so that they can be operated without a driver. This driverless technology (also known as ATO, Automated Train Operation) allows the train to be operated without a driver and allows the train to accelerate, brake, adjust speed or stop on its own. We don't know about you, but somehow an automated train in our environment (with all the metro stoppages) doesn't seem a good idea. So as of now, there is a driver as a failsafe or manual override so that he/she can take over in case the situation demands.

Check In @ Airport Express Line Stations

3 stations along the Airport Express line namely the New Delhi Station, Shivaji Stadium and the Dhaula Kuan stations will be offering the check in facility which will enable you to bypass check in hassles at the airport. The flip side with this feature is that most of the airlines have yet to set up check in counters and that Baggage check ins are only available in the New Delhi and Shivaji Stadium station. So ultimately at least for now, you will be stuck at using the Airport for check ins. However given a few months into operation and as the Airlines negotiate with DAMEPL; the counters should be operational soon. How soon though is anyone's guess.

Ticket Price of the Airport Express

The good news is that ticket prices for now are being discounted. The lowest fare is Rs 20 and the highest fare is Rs 100. After the discount offer expires, the lowest fare will be @Rs20 and highest fare Rs 180. For more details have a look at the airport express line fare chart. Now if only DAMEPL would extend that discount...

Delhi Metro Express Line Timings

The Airport Express Line's first train leaves at 6 am and the last train leaves at 10pm from both the stations at New Delhi railway station and at the Dwarka Station. However there might be further revisions from time to time based on the passenger load on the Airport Express line and other external factors. So the wise thing to do would be to check out the official website for the latest updated timings for the Airport Express.

Additional Services Available

The Airport Express line offers a few cool value added services like taxi services, porter services and trolley services. You get an airport taxi service or dial a Delhi car rental at 011-30802080 in case you need one for your further journey. If your bags are too heavy to life, you can get a porter for Rs 50. Baggage trolley services are absolutely free

Washrooms or restroom facility

With the paucity of restrooms in India, it's good to know should you need to take a leak or freshen up, you can do that in comfort in spotlessly clean toilets.

Things the Airport Express line could improve

So by now you must be pretty blown away with Delhi's Airport express line's amazing facilities, high speed trains and spectacular stations. But the question is, are there any flies in the ointment? Unfortunately there are quite a few areas where the Express line can improve leaps and bounds. We have listed things that we noticed needed improvement as follows

Although the connectivity to T3 is spot on with a passenger walkway, connectivity to Terminal 1D (where most low cost airlines are present) is patchy with passengers having to take a taxi or bus from the Airport Metro station. Yes there is a shuttle bus facility to Terminal 1D, however if you are a visitor, you can't use itIf you are using the regular airport and changing over at the New Delhi Station for the Airport Link, you will have to buy another ticket for using the Airport Express line. We think that there should be one ticket that should work for both Delhi Metro and the Airport Express line which would save passengers a whole lot of time along with being convenientIncomplete stations look like construction wrecks and spoil the Airport Express line experience. But with time this will improve as the stations near construction.A major downside of the Airport Express Link service is that it's hours of operation are from 8am to 10 pm. Keeping in mind most international passenger arrive in the wee hours of the night or early morning, this service will be absolutely useless to them.Security is manned by CISF who do become very jumpy in case you choose to photograph the stations and the train. The Delhi Metro Airport Express Line officials maintain that photography is banned along the Airport Express line; however there is no signage which says so anywhere.

Keeping everything in mind the usefulness of the Airport Express Line cannot be disputed. However, it will have significant challenges in terms of how it can handle large ridership volumes, natural disasters and more importantly the threat of terrorism and security. Also it misses out on a significant chunk of international travelers who arrive late night or early morning. Time will tell how successful the Airport Express line will be. For now with people raving about the world class Express line's cost savings, speed and comfort, it seems to be the king of Delhi's public transportation system and the Delhi Metro's crown jewel.

Catalunya, Spain Has It All, From Barcelona's Vibrant Culture to the Stunning Coasts of Costa Brava

Catalunya has a culture of its own most evident in its language, catal?n, deriving from Latin as the Spanish, French, Italian or Portuguese languages do. Catalu?a's culture is one of the oldest and richest of the European Mediterranean. The presence of Catalan merchants in the Mediterranean during the Middle Ages was pivotal in the creation of trade routes that stretched from Sardinia and Sicily to Constantinople. The magnitude and wealth of medieval Catalonia is very much still palpable in the Gothic quarter of Barcelona, the capital of the region and the second leading city in Spain after Madrid. Catalonia and in particular Barcelona became and still is an important industrial center that led to the emergence of a wealthy middle class willing to spend their money on the beautification of their city giving way to the birth of Catalan modernism. Modernist architects expressed themselves in different ways; some wanted to revive Romanesque architecture while others looked to the French neo-Gothicism and modern styles of Germany and Austria. The goal was to create a modern art based on Catalan traditions mixed with the use of new materials as seen the works of Gaud? with La Sagrada Familia, La Pedrera and Parc Guell or Dom?ch and Montaner with el Palau de Musica Catalana and the Hospital of San Joan all of which represent the tourist image of Barcelona along with the cheerful Paseo de La Ramblas and colorful Mercado de la Boquer?a. An image updated in 1992 when Barcelona was host to the Olympic Games, the nomination sparked an ambitious urban plan resulting in a large scale restoration making Barcelona one of the most visited cities in Spain and for a long time the leader of the cultural vanguard.

Barcelona for the most part is the image of Catalunya in the world but Catalonia is more than just Barcelona, Gerona or Girona in catal?n is a beautiful historic city with an extraordinary Cathedral and Jewish Quarter, el Call. The city of Tarragona preserves its rich Roman heritage with a magnificent amphitheater, forum and Aqueduct along with the Old quarter and the cathedral. The city is open to the sea and the views from el Balc?n del Mediterraneo are magnificent. South of Tarragona is the natural park of Delta del Ebro, an extraordinary haven for thousands of birds, including a large breeding colony of flamingos. L?rida or Lleida in catal?n is less charming than the aforementioned cities but its province in addition to being an excellent producer of fruits and vegetables has one of the most famous ski resorts in Spain, Baqueira-Beret, located in el Valle de Ar?n in the Pyrenees, very popular among Spanish skiers including King Juan Carlos and his family. Not far is the National Park of Aigues Tortes and Lago San Maurici some of the most striking mountain landscapes in Spain.

Catalunya has excellent beaches all along the Costa Brava in Girona and Costa Dorada in Tarragona. Fishing ports are abundant such as Palam?s, Cambrils, Sitges picturesque towns and the origin of excellent seafood dishes. The cuisine in Catalu?a is extraordinary, around the coast travelers can enjoy outstanding rice dishes and unforgettable suquet de peix (seafood soup) while towards the interior of the region dishes are heartier rabbit with snails, escalibada (check out my food recipes if you want to learn how to make it), or peus de porc amb rovillons (pig's trotters stuffed with mushroom sauce). The Catalan region produces first-class wines like those from the appellations of Pened?s, Priorat and Alella as well as magnificent olive oils such as those from Siurana, however, the star of Catalonia is cava the delectable Catalan champagne. Bon viatge!

Safari Holidays With the Big 5 - Lions

Of all the Big 5 game animals in South Africa, it might be the lion that reigns over the others when it comes to striking the most distinctive figure. Known through many varied depictions in popular culture and fable as the 'King of the Beasts', the lion is definitely a draw for many visitors looking to get up close and see these incredible animals in the wild on their safari holidays. Whether it's the thrill of getting as close as you safely can to such dangerous animals, or a more scholarly or conservation-oriented interest, the lions of Southern Africa are definitely not to be missed.

Hunting

Lions earned their place on the Big 5 list due to the difficulty in hunting them, and they demonstrate their own hunting prowess in their position as the apex predators of the African savannas and grasslands. Lions don't typically hunt humans - good news for your safari holidays! - but their romantic allure as kingly figures of the animal world is emphasised by their capacity to threaten humans, on occasion. Amongst a group (or pride) of lions, it is the lionesses who do most of the hunting, working together in co-ordinated groups to stalk their prey. This teamwork also allows them to defend their kills from other competing predators such as hyenas.

The Mane Thing

The highly distinctive feature of male lions is their mane, and it's the easiest way to spot a lion while on your safari holidays. Having featured in depictions of the animal since the times of cave paintings from the Palaeolithic period, it has become one of the most widely recognised symbols in human culture. Manes make the lion appear larger, providing an excellent intimidation tactic for them to use in ritual confrontations with other lions, and in fending off scavenging hyenas from their kills. On your safari holidays the mane can be an excellent clue as to the condition of the lion - a general rule of thumb is that the darker and fuller the mane, the healthier the lion.

Rest and Play

You're likely to see lions at rest on your safari holidays, as they are inactive and resting for around 20 hours per day. Although lions can be active at any time, their activity generally peaks after dusk, with a period of socialising and grooming before hunting in the night. Feeding is often competitive, as members of the pride try to consume as much food as possible.

Tantrum-Free Vacations: 5 Creative Tips to Keep Your Sanity While Traveling With Your Children

Tantrum-free vacations: 5 creative tips to keep your sanity, travel with your children, and have a fun vacation, really!

You want to spend your vacation at a spa resort, your husband's idea of a good time is a weekend at the golf course, and your kids can't wait to test out the latest hot rides at the amusement park. Is there such a thing as a family vacation that makes everyone happy or are you destined to hearing the children grumbling from behind their DS, "are we there yet" while you're refereeing their arguments from the front seat?

No matter what age your children are, from tots to teens, vacations can easily become hijacked by whining, pouting, and full out screaming from kids and spouses too. So how can you have a tantrum-free vacation, keep your sanity while traveling with your children, and actually have a fun time?

Try these 5 sanity saving tantrum-free traveling tips:

1. Pick vacations that will have something each family member can enjoy. No, you don't have to sacrifice grown-up time to enjoy a happy family vacation. Choose a location that will have something for everyone, such as a family friendly cruise with kid themed activities and lots of adult amenities or the family resort with the water park that suits mom's desire to shop and dad's golfing needs. If you have more than one child share some special " vacation alone time" with each child, where they can spend time with mommy or daddy doing an activity they choose.

2. Many children have a difficult time with transitioning, going from one thing to the next, and for some children a vacation is overstimulating. They may have a difficult time with loud noises, new experiences, or may be sensitive to moving from one place to another. Often tantrums or meltdowns are a child's way of expressing that they are overwhelmed. A little preparation can help with the transitions. Share with your child images of where you are going and talk about what they will see and experience. They can even begin a scrapbook with images of their vacation before they leave and complete it when they return, so they have a feeling of control over the experience. Pack a few things in your child's travel backpack that will help your child with transitioning and waiting, such as favorite music on their mp3, favorite DVDs, a new coloring book, or a new toy. Remember to always pack snacks and juice or water; a hungry kid is a cranky kid (and that goes for adults too).

3. Adults need fun too. Hire a babysitter for a night on the town and you will model to your children the importance of taking care of your relationship. Ask the concierge about the babysitting services the hotel provides or recommends, or you can google babysitting agencies. Make sure that the sitters are screened for background checks, and that they are CPR and First Aid certified, then take some time to dance the night away. Also, book adjoining rooms for older children so you can have some alone adult fun time too.

4. Head off the meltdowns and tantrums at the pass. As a parent you notice the signs that a melt down is brewing. It could be whining, or attempts to agitate their siblings, and you know that these are the early warning signs that the tantrum storm is coming. Take a minute and breathe before you respond. Children pick-up on your emotional state and mirror it via the phenomena of mirror neurons meaning if they are agitated then you are likely to mirror their emotional response, which only amplifies their tantrum. Research suggests taking a deep breath allows you to increase the flow of oxygen to your brain, whereby you'll approach the situation from a calm and rational place, rather than reactive response. Take a breath, let your child know you understand how they feel, and then calmly talk with your child.

5. Take a break. Sometimes there is just so much that your child can experience in one day before they become overwhelmed. Create some downtime each day where they can just play in the pool or chill with their tunes. Be realistic for the developmental age of your child, and just how much activity is too much, and you will minimize exhaustion tantrums.

Vacations can be fun filled for the whole family when you use these sanity saving tantrum-free traveling tips.

Most Useful Apps for Haulage Companies

If you work for, or are considering working for, haulage companies, there's a good chance that you love driving. The freedom of the open road, the solitude of long journeys, the ability to escape the office - these are all things that make working for haulage companies so enjoyable.

However, technology has had a huge impact on all our lives over the last few years, and drivers too have found that technology can have a large effect on their jobs. One of the biggest areas where this has occurred is with mobile applications for smartphones. But can such apps really make life easier for drivers working for haulage companies?

Find Your Way Around

One of the best types of app that you can take advantage of if you work for haulage companies is a GPS app. You don't actually have to purchase a new GPS unit: if you've got a smartphone then you can download an app that allows you to find your way around just as easily. There are a number of good apps to choose from, ranging from the more expensive professional sat nav apps such as TomTom, Navigon and CoPilot, to the free map applications which perform a similar but more basic function. With one of these apps you'll never get lost again.

Parking Problems?

Parking can be an issue for anyone involved with haulage companies, and surely one of the biggest fears for drivers is that they will forget where they have parked. However, you can prevent this frustrating possibility by downloading an app such as iCar Park. This allows you to record the location of your vehicle with just a tap of a button, and the app will then direct you back to your vehicle. This is great for using in unfamiliar areas, making it ideal for jobs which take you to new places. Another app which does a similar job is G-Park.

Save Money on the Road

Gas Buddy is an app which could prove to be very popular with people working for haulage companies. It allows you to find petrol stations based on their location and prices, and it then directs you to your chosen station from your current location. This could prove to be invaluable as it could save you lots of money on fuel as well as making life easier when you are driving in new areas.

Take Advantage of Apps

Apps for mobile phones are making life easier for drivers working for haulage companies. If you work for a haulage firm and you own a smartphone, it may be worth investing in a few good apps as they could improve the experience for you whilst you are working.

Safari Holidays With the Big 5 - Elephants

Perhaps no animal better symbolises the romance of safari holidays in Southern Africa than the elephant; these gentle giants are very distinctive sights. The largest living land mammals, elephants are also recognisable from their large ears, tusks and prehensile trunks, making it little wonder they capture the imagination of travellers the world over. Elephants are renowned for the power of their memories; you may recall the phrase 'an elephant never forgets'! Surprisingly enough, modern science has shown that elephants have some of the most developed brains and neocortexes of any living animal. This appears to have been known to ancient scholars, however - Aristotle once wrote that the elephant was 'the beast which passeth all others in wit and mind."

Pack Your Trunk

The most important and versatile appendage these animals, the trunk is used in a variety of situations during the life of an African elephant. It boasts two finger-like projections at its tip to aid the elephant in grasping small objects, or with sensitive movements. The trunk of an elephant is said to be sensitive enough to pick up a single blade of grass, and strong enough to rip a limb from a tree - and you may witness both while observing these creatures on your safari holidays.

The trunk is also used for drinking - elephants can suck up to 14 litres of water at a time into their trunks, and then blow it into their mouths, or spray it over their bodies while bathing. Elephants familiar with each other will twine and clasp their trunks in a similar greeting to a handshake, and use the trunk while play-wrestling, or to defend themselves from real threats. An elephant also relies on its trunk for its sense of smell, and you may see elephants on your safari holidays using their trunks in the style of a periscope to sniff out the scents of friends and food sources.

Tusks

Though they may appear quite frightening on a muscular elephant, an elephant's tusks are used for to dig for water and roots, to debark trees when elephants want to eat the bark, and to move trees and branches when clearing a path. Though it may not be immediately apparent on your safari holidays, an elephant's tusks never stop growing during the course of their lifetime. Another fascinating fact is that elephants can be right-or-left tusked, in the same fashion a human can be right-or-left handed. The dominant tusk, called the master tusk, can usually be spotted as it will be shorter, and generally a little more rounded from the wear of an elephant's everyday use.

Biak Na Bato National Park: Caves, Rivers and Historical Wonders

The province of Bulacan lies in the north side of the Philippines capital, Manila. And it belongs to the Central Luzon Region the 3rd Region of the 16 Regions that the Philippines have. The word Bulacan, came from the word "bulac" which translates in English as cotton.

San Miguel, a municipality in the province of Bulacan houses the Biak na Bato National Park. The park is symbolic not only to the Bulakenyos, but also to all the Filipinos who enjoys the freedom and independence that our country has to offer.

Inside the 330 hectare national park is the Aguinaldo Cave. The Aguinaldo Cave is the main cave in a network of caves. In July 1987, General Emilio Aguinaldo established the Biak na Bato Republic issuing proclamation that; friars should be expelled from the Philippines and the Filipino friars be returned, the Philippines shall be allowed to be represented in Spanish courts, freedom of the press and of religion, abolishment of the laws that banish Filipinos, and equality for all before the law.

The cave is the main hide out of Aguinaldo and the Philippine's first official cabinet members and the rest of the revolutionary army. Aguinaldo led the parties into an agreement which what we call now, the Kasunduan sa Biak na Bato (Pact of Biak na Bato). The Pact created an agreement between Spanish Colonial Governor General Fernando Primo de Rivera and Emilio Aguinaldo. It was stated there that both parties will end the Philippine Revolution.

Biak na Bato National Park is not only rich in caves and history but also in natural springs. Underneath the Aguinaldo cave runs an underground natural spring where cool and refreshing water flows. Outside the cave runs a crystal clear river. The river looks more pristine as the surrounding lush green trees provide contrast and harmony.

Along the riverbeds lie sections of openings and cracks. One opening is called "Cuarto Cuarto" or room partitions. Plenty of stalactites can be found inside the Cuarto Cuarto. The beauty of the stalactites can be likened to a chandelier

Take the North Luzon Tollway and take the 32A/32B Exit. From there, go north on the National Highway towards Plaridel, Baliuag, San Ildefonso which is about 28 kilometers. Approximately seven kilometres after Ildefonso, keep an eye for a Y intersection and you'll find a sign pointing towards the direction of Biak na Bato National Park. Take the road on the right. About another kilometre and there would be another intersection.

Biak na Bato is a favourite destination for tourist on weekend holidays and a top pick for students on field trip.

South African Safari Holidays on Horseback

If your idea of safari holidays is a lot of dusty rides in open-air off-road four-by-fours and long walks through brush stalking game that got scared away by the noise and the smell of petrol fumes, don't worry. There are better ways to enjoy a safari.

One of them involves a romantic and traditional way that hearkens to the days of old-time hunters: the horseback safari! Holidays on horseback are getting more popular in Southern Africa, and visitors agree there's no better way to enjoy the experience.

Get Closer To Your Game

Safari holidays on horseback are popular primarily because they enable you to get closer to the wildlife than you ever would on motorised vehicles. Unlike in a motor vehicle, horses make less noise and produce no unnatural fumes that cause wildlife to be on guard and hide away. Not only that, the smell of horses also masks the scent of humans, so the wildlife is less apt to be shy. Your chances of moving closer to your quarry is greater- imagine being able to get close to the awesome giraffes, elephants, leopards, hippos and rhino that you've been dreaming of seeing on your safari holidays!

Where To Go

There are many game reserves and nature parks that offer (and even encourage) horseback safari holidays. A popular route starts at Mpumalanga, through the Wilderness Trail and Drakensberg Mountains, culminating at Kruger National Park and the many private nature reserves in the area. Other popular destinations for horseback safari holidays are the nature reserves in KwaZulu Natal, Kromdaai Conservancy near Johannesberg, and the Waterberg Nature Reserve - where you can also see other animals such as zebras, impala, kudu and eland as well as the regular South African wildlife.

Not A Big Game Fan?

If traipsing after lions, giraffes, elephants, hippos, rhinos and other mammals isn't your idea of a wild time, there are still plenty of options to enjoy hoofing through South Africa without having to go on a game safari. Holidays on horseback can also feature riding trails through long white-sand beaches, wetlands and mountain trails, where you can see birds, rare orchids and other breathtaking natural sights.

If you're one of those whose idea of safari holidays is hunting for great food and wine, there are riding trails that go through the wine country with stops at farms and vineyards where you can sample great food, wine, cheese and other local products. In fact, there's really no end to the fun you can have galloping through South Africa!

Marine Tourism Damage - The Causes, Effects and Solutions

Have you ever been to a beach filled with garbage, very little coral and even less fish? Unfortunately this beach wasn't always like this and it was brought to this state by none other than us. Tourism is a major threat to our marine life. It's generally the marine life that attracts us to go on these beach vacations however, it's these beach vacations that are ruining our marine life.

Coral reefs house 25% of the earths marine life, therefore it is in our best interests to protect the coral reefs in order to protect our marine life. There are many reason why reefs and their inhabitance are very important to us. They provide us with entertainment, food and even medicines.

Our idea of an ideal beach vacation consists of a radiating sun, a beautiful beach and crystal clear fish abundant waters. In order to keep this dream a reality we must protect our coral reefs. Snorkeling and diving sites are continually degrading in quality as fish and coral die out, leaving only stark white life less coral.

Throughout the last twenty years developing countries have increasingly marketed their tropical beaches which has lead to an increase in tourists and hotels along these tropical beaches. This is beneficial to the country as it helps to increase the countries GDP and employs the locals in these often remote areas. Unfortunately these developing countries may not be able to look forward to this income for too many more years to come as the increased tourism has drastically damaged the nature which tourists have come to see.

According to a criteria laid out by the International Union for the Conservation of Nature coral is the most endangered species on the earth. Coral is the basis of life for more than 25% of all marine species, without coral a massive amount of our marine life will become extinct. We already have a problem on our hands because ten years ago 2% of our coral was endangered whereas today around 30% of our coral is endangered (according to the Global Marine Species Assessment). This means something must be done today before the problem can get any worse.

One of the major reasons for this incredible damage to our underwater reefs is tourism. There are many ways in which tourism damages the basis of life for our fragile underwater ecosystem. Its damaged through water activities, pollution and transport.

Sport Tourism - What It Is

Here's sport tourism explained. Love the idea of following your Football heroes to exotic destinations around the world while they fight it out to get hold of the World Cup? This is where Sport tourism comes in. This concept is not a new one. Since time immemorial, people have been following their favorite athletes around the world - be it for Olympics or for other gaming events.

Overview

But the difference was, in the olden days, it wasn't so convenient for travelers. They had to face a lot of hardship in order to see their favorite athletes play. The concept is rather different, in fact countries where these events are held - for Eg. China, where the Olympics were conducted last year- make it a point to ease the path of travelers to boost tourism.

Sport tourism and vacations need not just be about following your favorite athletes around the world. You can organize a little sports vacation for employees of your company to increase bonding between families. For example, you can fly out people to different destinations close by and hold a little baseball tournament for the athletes in your company! Trust me, it is a great way to enhance employee relationships. It also improves team work skills among employees.

Checklist

So what do you need in order to organize an event of such large proportions?

? Firstly, you need to decide on a proper venue wherein you can conduct your event. For this you need to get in touch with overseas sports clubs.

? You need a place which is catered specially for services like this. Sports tourism marketing is a hot new niche of tourism and certain places are building up an image which will help them cash in on this latest buzz by offering the best deals and accommodation facilities. You need to find out which ones they are.

? Next you will need to make proper accommodation arrangements for everyone involved - the team, administrative people, families of athletes and of course, the management and the big boss as well should he choose to grace the event! And we all know how careful we have to be while arranging accommodation.

? Online booking systems and other tools which will ensure a smooth ride for the athletes and people concerned.

Who Should Be Concerned About the Vacation Packages?

As humans, we have a tendency of considering certain provisions fit for a particular class of people. When you look at the leisure options, the general impression you get is that they are optional. But if you are a person who may need to travel or hire a car, the tour packages can make life easier. They make the planning process practical and realistic.

Employers

Many company owners usually avoid discussing vacation plans with employees. But, such an attitude does not help the workers. If you want the employees to enjoy a fun packed vacation, you may try to hear their views. This can enable you to know many other logistics involved in planning a vacation. But time may not allow you to make a balanced assessment. That is why, the vacation packages are very helpful to employers. With such packages, the budget estimates for such an undertaking become correct. This can help your company to satisfy the demands of the workers without affecting the budget negatively.

Mothers

If you are planning to take your baby to a place that is quiet and inviting, think about the amount of time you would save with the vacation packages. As a mother, you may start by considering the age of your baby. If he has not reached a reasonable age for travelling, postpone the tour. Otherwise, make an effort to take your child on a vacation at a more convenient time in future. Therefore, as a mother, the vacation packages are still your concern. You can not brush them aside. This is because, the packages will make an inquiry into the age of your child, at some point, as you start the bookings.

Most mothers feel that such an option of utilizing the packages is only meant for fathers or husbands. This faulty reasoning emanates from the fact that, most of our mothers have never even tried such options. This is a system which should make sure that every potential customer benefits from the facilities offered. Therefore, you may take your time and analyze what is available against what you can manage. In order to come up with the final decision, you may later consult with your husband for approval. You are not usurping his role as head of the house. The step taken can help the head of the house to make the right decision.

Fathers

As a father, you may need to make use of these packages in planning your tour. This is important because it will give you a clear picture of what the tour involves. The online information obtained can make easy for you to start planning for your tour to a place as exotic as the Hawaii Hotels. It is not a plan which could be done with baseless assumptions. With the vacation packages, you are on a website that can make sure that you easily and reliably make your final decision without a lot of effort.

To be specific, these packages are for everyone. There is no one who likes being taken unaware by the toll of hidden costs and circumstances. That is why smart people consider the packages seriously

High Gas Prices, Small Cars, Portable Mobility

Increasing gas prices have contributed to less mobile traveling. As the warmer weather approaches, long distance travel will take a major hit as more people enjoy fun activities in their backyards or remain closer to home. However, active baby-boomers and seniors are not willing to stay still for long and prefer to be on the go away from home. If you find yourself in this band of highway warriors, there are a couple of ways to get where you want to go and not be held back by expensive fuel pump tallies.

Today's busy seniors are downsizing their vehicles to save on gas consumption in order to hit the open road at less of a financial burden. Many are also investigating motorized travel mobility aids as an option to conserve their personal energy when longer walking distances are called for. Even though travel mobility aids are becoming more portable than ever before, the variances in size and folding capability may require a vehicle lift of considerable expense or a larger trunk. So, is a smaller car actually able to accommodate a travel mobility aid if you choose to purchase both?

For newer, dynamic front drive travel models, even a smaller car's back seat or trunk is the perfect fit for compact foldable, lightweight models eliminating the need for a lift. Lightweight aluminum platforms around 50 pounds and equally light removable battery packs a little over 10 pounds, combine to make sturdy and dependable portable travel models boasting a 250 lb rider capacity. Look for products that are completely foldable with a simple latch release for total convenience and portability. A portable travel model designed for active seniors needing additional mobility for long distances, is not intended for long durations of daily use. Instead, the next time you're experiencing wanderlust and plan a vacation, non-stop shopping excursion or an extended night's "walk" look for traveling models with at least 10 miles per charge making it just that much easier to stay energized longer at periodic intervals.

Check out http://www.ehow.com/about_6360885_folding-travel-scooters.html for helpful background information on travel mobility no longer intended solely for individuals with disabilities or walking limitations. Lightweight, foldable and portable, today's travel mobility aids will keep you active, on the go longer and enjoying all that you want. To get more bang for your buck, seek out domestic USA-made models. They are few and far between, but remember the old adage...you get what you pay for. Look ahead to summer, get out and travel the highways and plan to have fun!

4 Bahamian Islands to Consider for Weddings in the Caribbean

The Bahamas is the ideal choice for anyone planning weddings in the Caribbean, but if you have chosen it as your island paradise for a wedding in the sun, which island - or islands - will you visit? There are 16 main islands in The Bahamas, so it's no easy decision to make. Here is a selection of four of the best, all unique in their own ways, to help you make your mind up.

1. The Abaco Islands

The Abaco Islands are a collection of tiny islands in the north of The Bahamas. They are the most popular after Nassau/Paradise Island and Grand Bahama Island and a good deal quieter. However, for anyone who would like to do some sailing after organising or attending weddings in the Caribbean, these are the islands to choose. There is some of the best sailing in the world to be found here, especially in places such as Marsh Harbour, so if sailing is your preferred method of relaxation then this could be the place to do it.

2. Andros

Andros is an island where you will truly be able to escape from civilisation, so if that's what you're after when you're considering weddings in the Caribbean then this is one island you might want to think about. It is actually the largest island in The Bahamas so you will be able to find plenty of places to escape to!

You'll be able to enjoy some excellent diving, especially in its famous inland blue holes, there are numerous local crafts to browse or buy, such as Androsia fabric and straw baskets, and it is also a fantastic destination for bonefishing - one of the most exciting types of fishing available.

3. San Salvador

San Salvador is one of the most popular of the Southern islands in The Bahamas, so anyone planning weddings in the Caribbean may want to consider this little gem. Sights to see include Columbus Monument which marks the spot where Christopher Columbus is said to have landed, Farquharson Plantation, where the notorious pirate Blackbeard was thought to have spent some time, and the still-working Dixon Hill Lighthouse. San Salvador is also a big favourite with divers looking for challenging reef and wreck dive sites.

4. Bimini

Bimini is one of the lesser-known islands of The Bahamas, but for people looking for something different for weddings in the Caribbean then this could be your island paradise. It is the closest island to the USA, and here you will find excellent big-game fishing, fantastic scuba diving, some incredible sea creatures, including the rare smalltooth sawfish. Regrettably a fire destroyed the Compleat Angler Hotel Bar and Museum where Ernest Hemingway spent time in the 1930s writing Islands in the Stream and To Have and Have Not.

Choose Your Island and Have Fun

There are many more islands to discover in The Bahamas, but if you are planning weddings in the Caribbean, the above four are a good place to start. Whatever type of wedding you are looking for, you'll have plenty of choice in The Bahamas, so plan your trip with a reputable and knowledgeable operator and enjoy a wedding to remember!

Why Not Take A Cab Ride Today

Sometimes there is no better way to get around than a cab ride. Whether you are going to work in the morning, meeting an important client for a lunch date, or getting home safely from the bar. A ride in a taxi can be both enjoyable and economical, depending on your reason for needing one. No matter what your reason for using one is though, safety is always at the heart of the matter.

The first thing that a lot of people think about when they hear the term cab ride is safety. These drivers still have a stigma that is unsavory, but in this day and age that stigma is unwarranted. Many companies today have very strict hiring and safety standards that just were not utilized in days past.

The owners of these companies realize that there is more of a need for this service than ever before. With rising gasoline and insurance prices, some people just cannot afford to own a car. So in the spirit of competition, transportation company owners are turning their companies into a more professional trade.

This is why you do not really need to worry about anything when you take a cab ride. The drivers are trained to provide safety and customer service to the passengers. It helps to know also that more cab companies these days are installing cameras in their fleets. These cameras work on a tape loop process and the tape starts running when sudden movement activates it.

The primary reason they are installed is because, if an accident does occur, the impact of the crash will activate the camera and let people know exactly what happened in real time. This drastically lowers their insurance premiums and removes doubt of what exactly happened to cause the crash.

The added benefit here of course is that passengers get a sense of safety seeing a camera above the dashboard. The lens in these cameras are 360 degrees so they are able to see everything both inside and outside the car. Many people still don't know this about taxis, so it is worthy to note.

Another safety aspect that cannot be ignored is drinking and driving. Many rides are taken these days so people do not get behind the wheel of their own vehicle when they are drunk. What some people don't know though is that there is a way you can get a free ride back to your car the next morning.

There are many companies that have voucher programs sponsored by various other companies, like the Budweiser Corporation for example, that make this happen. This helps to drastically cut down on the instances of drinking and driving which make the roads safer for everyone.

There is so much more to transportation companies these days than meets the eye. The safety that they offer you leads to a more enjoyable ride, and the cost effectiveness is good all the way around. If you haven't taken one lately, go take a taxi. You'll be pleasantly surprised.

Americans Traveling in a Bad Economy

With the economy bringing them down and stressors flourishing, it is surprising that many Americans have put vacationing and traveling high on their priority list. But an overestimated number of American families have done just that to try to relieve some of the stresses and worries that the current economic situation has brought into their lives. Anything and everything that can be done to bring in relaxation and a sense of mental well being is currently climbing the priority list in many American households.

Mariott's Springhill Suites conducted their second annual traveler's survey online to get a picture of what is to come in the travel industry. The results were interesting because the majority of the 1,000 Americans that participated in the survey stated that they will be taking some sort of vacation in the next year to unwind and get away from their hectic work lives and worries about life in general. They also stated that cost was not exactly a factor when deciding where to go. Online travel deals can take a back seat to a desirable location.

Many of the people surveyed also stated that gas prices were not going to have an effect on any destinations that they decide to drive to for a relaxing vacation. Gas prices have been on a steady rise in the US for the past few years and some industries have had a concern that rising prices may cause people to stay at home. The data from this survey says otherwise.

American women are more likely to unplug themselves from work on their vacation by not checking their work related email while away compared to American men who find it a little bit harder to completely shut themselves off from the workplace. Two thirds of the people surveyed said they will not be answering the office while away on vacation. Even though they will not be in touch with work, the survey discovered that 89% of adults on vacation will stay in touch with their Facebook accounts.

The Fourth of July is the most common major American holiday for traveling for leisure and not for a family event. Thanksgiving is still the busiest travel day of the year but the majority of travelers over that holiday are on their way to a family gathering. The Fourth is a more relaxed holiday that can be enjoyed without the hustle and bustle of feeling an obligation to be somewhere.

This survey also discovered some lesser known habits and likes of the American traveler. Americans are more likely to miss sleeping in their own beds and American men are more likely to get their hair cut before going on vacation than American women. There are even regional differences in the US with how a parent will handle an unruly child.

Americans do love their vacations, even more in a bad economy with higher pressures for meeting life's basic needs. It would appear that the stressful economy can be good for the travel industry by providing the getaways that are needed.

It is always important to have insurance whenever you are traveling. If you are looking for the most affordable prices for annual travel insurance, you should seriously consider going online to use a quote comparison service where you can compare quotes offered by various insurance companies. You can save a substantial amount of money by comparing quotes.

2 Hidden Gems on Burma Holidays

As travel to Burma resumes in greater numbers after the National League for Democracy's alteration in its stance on tourism - now welcoming visitors - the question of what to see on Burma holidays is being raised. The major sights include the cities of Rangoon (Yangon) and Mandalay, the legendary Bagan plain with its thousands of temples, and peaceful Inle Lake. Travellers hoping to explore the lesser visited areas of the country are looking beyond these - with Pyin Oo Lwin and Kalaw being two of the hidden gems of Burma. Holidays including visits to these historic British Hill Stations give visitors a rare chance to see the untouched countryside of Burma.

Pyin Oo Lwin

The road to Pyin Oo Lwin winds through flower, fruit and vegetable gardens, terminating in the bustling market town that was formerly under British control. The remnants of the British presence are more tangible away from the town's centre: visitors on Burma holidays will find brick and timber houses complete with English-style gables, turrets and chimneys. The famous Candacraig House is among them - however, now under Burmese military ownership and the new name of Thiri Myaing Hotel, it is quite run down.

Pyin Oo Lwin is surrounded by beautiful countryside and small villages. A walk among the small fields, typically used for growing seasonal crops like rice, barley and a range of fruit, is a chance to encounter the local people of Burma. Meeting the men and women walking to and from market, school children eager to practice their English and crimson-robed monks receiving alms, helps to make Burma holidays more than just an exercise in sightseeing.

Kalaw

Kalaw, like Pyin Oo Lwin, is the site of a former British Hill Station and architecture from the time of British colonial rule is still visible, including an old Catholic church.

Venturing into the countryside is, once again, a rewarding experience. Depending on the route taken, the roads wind past rice and potato fields, and through forested hills of eucalyptus, tamarind trees and pine. But the beautiful landscape is not the only reason to go walking here - various ethnic groups inhabit the hills, and walking near Kalaw allows visitors to see their traditional village life and farming methods. The groups include the Taung-yoe, the Danu, the Pa-O and ethnically Nepali people. For most villagers, their main source of income is farming and visitors to the area are likely to see some of the local people going to and from the market in Kalaw, where they trade their produce for other essential goods. Encountering these wonderful people is a definite highlight of Burma holidays.

Jude Limburn Turner is the Marketing Manager for Mountain Kingdoms, an adventure tour company who run Burma holidays. Operating in Asia for over 20 years, they now offer treks and tours worldwide, including destinations in North and South America, Europe, Africa, and Central and South East Asia.

Short Breaks on Phuket

Phuket is an hour away from Bangkok's international airport and Singapore, so is an ideal place to unwind after a business trip. You can let your hair down in Patong and have a massage almost everywhere on the island. Phuket is a little more sophisticated than Patong, but of course it's busy, and hectic with people who want to shop. It has an island atmosphere, so the pace of life is much more relaxed than in Singapore or Bangkok, making it a good get-away. The beaches are wonderful and there's a huge choice of water sports, or small bays where you can just laze on the beach more or less away from it all, even in high season.

There is a great night life scene and this ranges from having an extended dinner with a choice of cuisines, Thai, Japanese, Indian or Pakistani and Malay. Seafood is a good choice as it is generally very fresh and there are various delicacies to tempt your palate. You can go to a cabaret featuring the Ladyboys and marvel at their beauty and talent, or go clubbing or to a disco, (just remember that the hostesses who sit with you will need to be paid at some time whether in drinks or in cash).

A few days on the island can be just what you need before that long trip home to what may be winter, so make the most of your time and relax on the beach with some of the more succulent fruit the island has to offer, juicy mangoes which you can just roll between your palms, squeeze a little and make a hole in the skin and suck out the nectar; or the more exotic mangosteens and rambutans which you peel like a lychee to get at the white fruit inside. You should also try durian, which you may or may not acquire a taste for. An 'exotic' fruit cocktail is readily available at the myriad caf?-bars and restaurants, and juices are available on the roads as well as Thai versions of fast-food.

There are many hotels and other accommodation to suit every pocket, and of course you can book online before you leave for the island. You can go to a lively destination or to a quieter spot away from the hordes which tend to congregate at Phuket, Patong, Kata and Karon. One of the places you shouldn't miss is the mystical Phang Nga Bay, which is a sight you will remember for life.

Enjoy your well-deserved break!

Getting The Right Taxi Service

There are a number of reasons why people use a taxi service. If you are a tourist and do not know a local area, it is often easier to call for a cab and ask where you want to go. Provided the driver knows where you want to go it can make getting around a city a lot easier.

As with any type of transport, there are some companies that provide better services than others. When you are looking for them in a local area, make sure you choose one that has been licensed. This is especially important if you are travelling somewhere at night.

It may be tempting to choose a cheaper non licensed driver, but this can mean risking an unpleasant ride and you do not know who will be benefiting from their services. In some cases, organized crime can benefit from unlicensed drivers. Therefore it is worth booking a service in advance.

A good place to ask is at local hotels, pubs or bars depending on the area you are staying in. Some will often offer free telephone services so that you can call them without having to worry about running out of phone credit on a cellular telephone or running out of coins in a phone booth.

Another thing to look for is a company that can offer you an estimated price for your journey. Some companies do not offer this and this can mean that a journey can be more expensive than necessary. A good company should be prepared to offer you a price so that you know how much it will cost.

There are a number of websites where you can find private hire companies. It is worth specifying the area you are going to in order to find what companies are available and are appropriate for your needs and budget. If you intend to travel on your own, then it will be more expensive than travelling with friends or clients. With any product or service, it is generally advised to get at least three different quotes to find the best possible price.

Another thing to look at when choosing a company is their location. This will give you an idea of how close they are to where you are and how quickly they will arrive. They will also usually have an idea of the area. They will often be able to recommend good hotels, restaurants and tourist sights that you may not be aware of. There is also often the benefit of a more friendly atmosphere than you would experience on public transport.

The best taxi service should be prompt, friendly and willing to accommodate your needs. While they may not be able to do anything about the traffic or delays they should be ready to get you to your chosen destination on time. With the right approach you will find the right one for your own individual travelling needs. Look online for company directories so you can start comparing them to see which offer the best possible deal and operate in the area you are looking to travel in.

Since people who are old or those who are sick are the ones that usually have incontinence, it is righteous that you should prepare the things that they are going to use before they do their daily activities.

The most common incontinence product is the adult diaper. This is the most basic item to prevent these people from leaking in public. These diapers work exactly the same with a baby diapers. It catches the urine of the person so it will not scatter and come out unnoticed.

As a person with incontinence, you must be prepared for all the activities that you do, especially if you are going on a trip. But most of the time, it is someone who is close to you, like your loved ones that needs these things. This is mostly because they are old enough, sick or impaired. As a result, you must prepare it for them because they are usually unaware of it.

If you are traveling with a person who has an incontinence problem, you must have all their incontinence supplies around, so that if that person needs to go to the bathroom or unnoticeably leaked, then there is no problem because you were prepared. It is also advisable that you must have all the necessary products that this person needs.

You can also manage these people's incontinence by making them avoid over consumption of diuretics, antidepressants, antihistamines and cough-cold medicines. This will help them process fewer products in their body. Also, these people must perform Kegel exercises in a daily basis so that they will stay fit for the rest of the day. Double voiding is also a good thing to do as a preparation. This is a process where the person urinates and waits for a few seconds and then urinates again. This will help them get used to controlling the urination movement. In addition to that, this person must retrain the bladder. this is a process where this person should urinate every three to six hours only.

People with incontinence must eat fruits, vegetables and whole grains everyday so that they can control and prevent constipation, especially if they are going for a trip. Healthy living is always the best solution to any health problems. If this person is a smoker, he or she must refrain from doing so because the nicotine from cigarettes irritates the bladder which helps your incontinence problems get worse.

There are numerous protective devices and products that you must prepare for the person with incontinence when flying. Some of them are the bed pads, combination pad-pant systems, disposable or reusable adult diapers, full-length absorbent undergarments, male incontinence drip collectors and underwear liners. The underwear liners come with pads, guards, shields and inserts. It is better that you are prepared than to get embarrassed especially during the flight.

The Town of Shiva in Tamil Nadu

Tiruvannamalai, 85 km from Vellore in northern Tamil Nadu seems a quiet, non-descript town like many another and yet it is a hidden gem. For worshippers of Shiva or Shaivites, it is of immense importance as Shiva is revered here as Arunachaleswar, an aspect of fire.

Mount Arunachal, an 800 meter high boulder strewn hill looms tall above the town keeping a watchful eye over its residents. Each full moon this hill has thousands of devotees circumnavigating its base, about 14 km in all. A common sight in the town is Shaivite priests, sadhus and devotees all flocking to Shiva's temple - the Arunachaleswar temple.

The Arunachaleswar temple is huge and one of the largest and certainly one of the most captivating, in the country. The temple goes back to the 11th century but most of the existing structure dates back to the 17th and 19th centuries. At each of the four cardinal points is a huge unpainted tower or gopuram, four in all.

The eastern gopuram, the main entrance and through which you enter, is quite special. It is 66 meters tall and rises to 13 stories. You walk down a covered walkway to the main entrance. On each side is a bazaar with vendors selling trinkets, flowers and prasadam (offerings). It is quite a unique ambiance.

As you enter the precincts of the temple you see a 1000 pillared gallery/hall or mandapam on the right and a large water tank on the left. Follow the devotees through the main courtyard to the main shrine with a Shiva lingam (Shiva's phallic symbol). Here in the sanctum sanctorum puja is held in the morning and evening.

Legend has it that Shiva appeared as a column of fire on Mount Arunachaleswar, creating the original symbol of the lingam, by which he is known to this day. Each November/December full moon, the Karthikai Deepam Festival, one of India's oldest festival, celebrates this legend throughout the country, though the festival has particular significance in Tiruvannamalai.

Here a huge fire, lit from a 30-meter wick dipped in 2000 liters of ghee (clarified butter) blazes from the top of Mount Arunachal for days. Every home, no matter how humble, lights lamps in honour of Shiva. The fire symbolizes Shiva's light, which dispels evil and darkness.

During the time of the festival over half a million people converge on the town and circumnavigate the base of Mount Arunachal, known locally as Girivalam, and climb up barefoot, to pay obeisance to Shiva. If you think it is too much for you to circumnavigate the Mount on foot then take an autorickshaw and stop at small shrines and temples along the way.

To get a great view of the temple climb up at least part of the Mount. Follow the path that leads up past village homes near the northwest corner of the temple passing 2 caves, Virupaksha and Skandasraman. Sri Ramana Maharishi (a great sage) lived and meditated in these caves for over 20 years(1899 to 1922) after which he established the Sri Ramana Ashram, a little outside Tiruvannamalai. Ramana Maharishi died in 1950 after spending 50 years in contemplation. The Ashram is a peaceful place to meditate or even visit.

Many visitors like to take a side trip to the twin ruined 16th century forts of Rajagiri and Krishnagiri - which crown the hilltops near gingee (shin-gee) about 35 km out of Tiruvannamalai. Built by the kings of the mighty Vijayanagar Empire these forts lie deserted except for the visit of the occasional tourist and the local cowherds.

Why Take Your Travel Business Online?

If you're conservative then you probably haven't really taken your travel business online yet. Of course, you may beg to differ since you have your own business site complete with a booking engine as well, but you haven't really been there and done that if you don't have a presence on the social scene online.

Why Social Networking

Yes, my friend, taking your travel business online is as effective and important - if not more- than networking offline and people have learnt this time and again. It is really important to reach out to your target market via sites like Facebook and Twitter. The simple reason being that these are sites where people express their opinions.

These are sites where people make recommendations - they can praise a certain hotel to the heavens or they can trash it too, depending on the type of experiences they have had at the hotel. So along with providing stellar services to your guests, you have to make them feel wholly welcome.

Branding

Basically you have to establish a brand online as well as offline - you can consider it an extension of your offline image if you please. Look at your brand in the same way as you would, your product, your brand needs to have integrity and credibility just like the product.

Brand integrity is basically a measure of how trustworthy the market perceives a company to be. It is defined by the product value, behavior of the company, its employees etc. Therefore, taking your travel business online is important for establishing brand integrity.

So what can you do to be in a good position in this race? Tie up with people or sites which network with the best in the online travel business. It is not enough to merely have a Facebook page or thousands of followers on twitter. You have to have links with all the top Travel engines on the internet like:

? Expedia
? Kayak
? Makemytrip

Not just that you need to have a presence in magazines and online media portals as well. Try Travellersinsights or even Ezine, You will be surprised at the kind of results you get, I assure you. Take this one step further with a .mobi page of your own.

One Step Ahead

You might wonder what this .mobi page is. It's simple really, this is a website of your own - a mini one- that is designed to exclusively cater to SmartPhone users who access most of their information on the go in airports and places like that.

This is great because it is custom made for smart phones as a result of which the navigation and maneuverability of these sites is much easier using SmartPhones than websites.

Remember, moving with the times is really important and one of the crucial aspects of it, where the travel industry is concerned, is having an online presence. You should venture into e-Commerce technology, Mobile marketing, social media marketing and of course, online tourism marketing. Are you to take your travel business online?

Working With Animals in the World of Racing

There are plenty of people around the world who are in careers working with animals intended for racing. While this is, in many respects, rocky ground when it comes to the ethics of how the animals are treated, away from the professions associated with horse and greyhound racing there are other, often less serious roles attached to other forms of animal racing.

Pigeon racing

Due to their unique homing ability, pigeons have been bred in captivity for centuries - originally to carry important messages quickly over long distances. It is a little known fact that the Reuters News Agency began life as a pigeon information delivery service, carrying stockmarket information between Belgium and Germany. The sport of racing pigeons developed in Belgium in the mid 19th century. While there is little scope for doing it professionally these days, the pigeon trade would have been a great opportunity for working with animals in the 19th century.

Pigeon racing involves birds being sent out from their home lofts and then racing back. The time taken and the distance covered are recorded, with the fastest bird declared the winner. In Europe, the races tend to be over a distance of between 100 and 1,000 kilometres. One of the main dangers for pigeons involved in racing is becoming grounded and disorientated, meaning they then find it very hard to find their way back.

Camel racing

Camel racing is a particularly good opportunity for careers working with animals, for those in countries where camels are to be found. The sport is very popular in countries from Egypt and the Middle East, through to India, Mongolia and Australia. Following the strong disapproval from many regarding the use of child jockeys, the sport is beginning to fall into line with the practice in horse-racing of using shorter adults as jockeys. At full speed, racing camels can incredibly reach speeds of up to 65 km/h (40 mph) in bursts and 40 km/h for up to an hour - they're much quicker than they look!

Yak racing

If you're lucky enough to be working with animals in Tibet, Northern Pakistan or Mongolia, then you will probably already know about yak racing. An integral and hugely entertaining part of the horse festivals that take place in the region, yak racing is more about the glory of winning than winning prize money. Even so, at the Jyekundo Horse Festival in Tibet the crowds for the yak racing events can number up to 20,000 people.
