Best Places for Water Sports in The Bahamas - Top Tips

The Bahamas is a great destination for weddings in the Caribbean, and one of the things that makes it so popular is the huge variety of water sports that it has to offer. With 16 main islands and hundreds of cays and sandbanks, it's no surprise that The Bahamas has so many water-based sports to choose from, however, where should you go to find the best places? Here is a quick guide for you and your wedding guests.

Sailing

Sailing is a hugely popular activity in The Bahamas, and you have a number of excellent places to choose from if this is your activity of choice when planning weddings in the Caribbean. Many guests will have travelled long distances to join you on your special day, so it is important they can also have a wonderful, fun-filled holiday! One of the top locations for sailing is the Abaco Islands, where Marsh Harbour is known as one of the best places in the whole of The Bahamas. Another is Exuma, which is made up of hundreds of small islands, with the best sailing to be found in the protected Exuma Cays Land & Sea Park. If you'd rather go sailing from New Providence Island, then there is plenty on offer here too, and from here one of the best trips is to head out to Blue Lagoon Island. If you'd rather go sailing from Nassau, just over the harbour is the glamorous Atlantis Paradise Island Resort and extensive Marina facilities. From the Paradise Island dock the ferry sails to Blue Lagoon Island for the Dolphin and Sea Lion Encounters.

Wreck Diving

Scuba diving is popular all over The Bahamas, but wreck diving is probably the most exciting way to dive. The Bahamas has a huge number of wrecks to explore, and some of the best include:

? The Ray of Hope, New Providence
? The Bahama Mama, New Providence
? The SS Sapona, Bimini
? The San Jacinto, the Abacos Islands
? The Bimini Barge, Bimini
? Theo's Wreck, Grand Bahama

Blue Hole Diving

There are plenty of blue holes to explore when you head to The Bahamas. Many people who come as guests for weddings in the Caribbean want to try something completely different - and diving a blue hole certainly fits that bill! These deep holes are found both inland and out to sea, and some of the best can be found in Andros - including Charlie's Blue Hole and the Little Frenchman.

Bonefishing

Fishing is one of the most popular sports in The Bahamas, especially big-game fishing. People are attracted from far and wide to try their luck with the fish in the waters here, and one of the most exciting types of saltwater fly fishing is for bonefish. The bonefish present anglers with a real challenge, and the best places to head if you want to try your hand are Andros and Bimini.
